Spending a typical "work day" on the links certainly beats the normal daily grind, something to which the scores of community minded golfers that comprised the field at the inaugural Tee It Up 4 Basic Needs golf outing hosted by Magnum Products can now testify. That's not to say, however, that their day of leisure didn't pay off handsomely for those who stood to benefit from the event.
While final figures remained unavailable as of this week's deadline due to pending invoices, Magnum Products Marketing Manager Debbie Hartwig was nonetheless able to report some early good news, as the Green Lake County Basic Needs Fund is now roughly $30,000 richer thanks to the supporters of the eighteen-hole event at Berlin's Mascoutin Golf Club.
"We consider the event a big success, considering the slower economy," said Hartwig. "We'd like to extend our sincerest gratitude and thanks to all of the event sponsors. Without their support, the Tee It Up 4 Basic Needs Outing would not have been sucessful."
The McClone Insurance Group took center stage amongst event supporters, serving as the outing's Diamond Event Sponsor. Other primary contributors included the Berlin Journal Newspapers (Special Event Sponsor), Magnum Products,LLC (Host and Dinner Sponsor), SMC Metal Fabrications (Lunch Sponsor), Wesco Distribution (Cart Sponsoir), GHL Industries (Silver Sponsor), and Mascoutin Golf Club (Golfer Gift Sponsor).
Several area businesses stepped up as premier hole sponsors for the first-time event, a list that included Badger Mining Corporation, CenturyTel, Community Health Network, Farmers and Merchants Bank, Godfrey & Kahn S.C. Milcut Incorporated, Muza Metal Products, Network Health Plan, Rostad Aluminum, Schenck S.C., Sondalle Ford Lincoln Mercury, W.C.Russell Moccasin Co, and Wisconsin Steel and Tube. Farmers and Merchants Bank representatives and the American Red Cross' Barbara Behling were on hand to staff the holes personally, with Behling providing an entertaining brand of education with her "Choking Charlie" demonstration.
The reaction to the American Red Cross' involvement in the outing was particularly notable in that nine of the first ten foursomes to take to the course had at least one member share a story about how they'd been involved in a situtation with a choking victim.
The Berlin Boy Scout Troop #673 and Berlin High School Madrigal Singers also took part in the inaugural outing, with the scouts presenting the colors, as the choral group performed the National Anthem prior to the shotgun start.
American Auction and Associates representative Jim Wagner was also among the many on hand to contribute toward the success of the outing, serving as the auctioneer during an evening live auction that featured such valuable items and services as vacation packages, sporting goods, airline certificates, and more.
Wesco Distribution's foursome of Brian Troth, Scott Valinski, Keith Hamm and Jacob Bartol combined their golfing skills to shoot a nine-under-par 63 to prevail in the men's division of the Tee It Up 4 Basic Needs Outing, while an even par round of 72 was good for top honors in the co-ed division for the Community Health Network outfit of Kelly Krause, Jennifer Enkro, Corbin Van Buren and Kunic Ubafemi.
